Deb Evans

Hello! I am Deb Evans, a creative multipreneur in Cypress, Texas, just NW of Houston. I am the creator of Pawprints for History and the author/illustrator of the Bella’s Tales of History Books, as well as many other books for both children and adults.

  • I’m a history buff now, but like many of you, sadly, I hated history class. Boring. Taught by the high school football coach who didn’t exactly bring passion to the subject. Fortunately, I had a mother who loved history and taught me to love history through road trips, reading, and crafts.
  • When I became a mom, my husband and I chose to homeschool our kids. This gave me carte blanche to teach history the way I’d wanted to learn it – hands-on, personal, relevant, engaging, and fun – through STORIES. I also taught history classes to other homeschooled students. Now that my kids are grown, I am sharing my love of history with children everywhere through my Pawprints on History initiative and my Bella’s Tales of History series.
  • Beyond history, I have been a private reading and writing tutor for over 20 years. I’ve specialized in working with dyslexic and struggling readers for over ten years. My work with these amazing kids inspired me to write my first children’s book – The Vowel Puppies. This book shares a story I’ve used in my reading instruction for years. Next, I created the original Bella’s Tales series with Bella’s Fables. People always ask if I have/had a dog named Bella. I have not. She is purely a figment of my imagination. She arrived fully formed in my head one day and now she feels as real to me as my “real” dogs do. Bella’s Tales exploded in just a few years with Bella’s Fables, Too, Bella’s Fairytales, Bella’s Tales of Jesus, and more. Including the history books, Bella’s Tales now numbers over a dozen books. Plus I’ve written Fiona Can’t Focus and Dexter the Book Dragon. At mid-life, I’ve discovered a passion for writing children’s literature, and there’s no going back!
  • I live with my husband of 30+ years Mike, aka my Biggest Fan, our three dogs, and one cat. Mike calls me a “big kid.” We are Empty Nesters. Our two daughters, now adults, are successfully living their own amazing lives out in the world.
  • I love words and language. I have always been an avid reader from the kid with her nose stuck in a book to the adult with her nose in her kindle. I’m fascinated by classic literature from Shakespeare to Edgar Allen Poe. I love Agatha Christie books and read every Hercule Poirot book and story while in elementary school. I am Team Oxford Comma, and I’m still mad about the Library at Alexandria.
  • I am active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. I give an annual Constitution presentation to our chapter. I am currently on our chapters America250 and Constitution Committees. Did I mention that I love history?
  • My Favorite Historical Figures are Leonardo DaVinci, Benjamin Franklin, William Shakespeare, pretty much all the Founding Fathers, Abigail Adams, and Queen Elizabeth I and II (What? You don’t have a list of favorite historical figures?)

I am available to present creative programs to both adults and children on a variety of subjects. Click here to learn more.
